9 - Betrayal
“How does it feel?”
”Do I feel anything?”
Sam thought about the things she had done. No one else knew. Not her relatives, not her friends. At least not yet.
“We could have been the best team ever. We were best friends. But why did you betray me so badly? Why do you constantly just lie and lie? Why do you abuse me and then play the victim?” Tom desperately asked for answers.
But she kept quiet. What emotions does a normal person feel when they choose to betray their closest person?
Guilt? Remorse?
Not Sam. She never cared about Tom. Never loved him. Sam epitomised her family clearly. They had a few traits among them which were appalling.
She and her family were shameless, violent and extremely ungrateful. They only cared about money. If Sam was not psychologically deranged like her family members, she would never have been able to do the things that she did.
It was all an act from the very beginning to trap Tom. It was just an act from Sam for ulterior motives.
She intentionally made Tom feel that she loved him. To create a false sense of security. So that he would never suspect her.
But she would regret it.
She would regret using Tom for his money. She would regret abusing his kindness. Even when Tom tried so hard to make her understand, her ego was more important.
She never learned the lessons of her past. Even when Tom gave her a fresh start at life, a second chance to a peaceful life, she just threw it away.
She disrespected everyone. Because that is what she saw her whole life. That is what she saw growing up. Violence, perversions, and constant lies.
She gave up on the one person who wanted to show her the right path, the one person who would stay up all night to make sure she was alright. That she would not fall behind on her education. That she would pray alongside him.
Sam would eventually regret what she did to Tom. But it would be too late. By then, Tom would get to know the truth about her. How she and her family targeted him. And how they would constantly lie about everything.
Tom had vowed to himself to support Sam with everything. He always wanted to make sure that his closest person would be the best.
But Sam chose not to be. She decided to destroy her own marriage because of her sick anger and ego rather than save it.
She would say that Tom was her inspiration, her role model, her guide, the most important person to her but all of that was just an act.
What mattered to her was money and materialistic things.
That is why she and her family would be shameless enough to use Tom’s things even when the person himself was not important to them.
Sam’s family was part of the act as well and she was the central valve.
Because if it were not an act, she could never have betrayed him. She could never have lied to people about Tom. She would never have tried to frame him. She would never have done any of it.
But she was used to lying and acting without shame.
Otherwise, no matter what the circumstances, she could never have betrayed him so badly. There was only one reason she could commit the crimes she committed. It was not her first time betraying someone. And then trying to frame them afterwards.
She was highly experienced in this regard. She had violence and anger in her blood and genes. Which was highly contrast to Tom’s calm demeanour. This anger and arrogance that rose from it would be one of the focal points on why Tom was adamant in protecting her. Protecting her from becoming like her surroundings.
Tom realised much earlier. The psychological delusions and trauma that Sam had harboured for 20 odd years.
She had abandonment syndrome and borderline personality disorder among other things. The trauma made her adapt to not be kinder, but to be more cunning. That’s what she was taught by the environment she grew up in. That being cunning was necessary for survival.
It was completely opposite of what Tom had learnt. He understood the dignity of being an honest man his whole life. His wife and her well being was the most important thing to Tom. But that was unfortunate. Honesty didn’t have any place in Sam’s family.
They were always looking for ways to hurt others, frame them, and use them for their own benefit. They never wanted to bear any responsibility. Nobody respected the kind of people they were. Many knew the truth about them. Many in society knew about the violence, shamelessness and lies that existed in this family.
They would lie so much sometimes that Tom would not even know what to say. He would just stay quiet. Just for Sam’s sake.
Tom would realise soon that Sam’s chronic lying was a result of her environment. And he would try everything to support her. But to no availl.
Sam would eventually realise one day. But it would be too late. Tom was gone. And she had been exposed of all the lies and crimes that she and her family had committed.
They regretted everything now. But what was the point? They never took responsibility when they should have.
They just nonchalantly destroyed Sam’s and Tom’s lives. Without breaking a sweat. As if everything was normal and how it was supposed to be.
Tom had always wondered this hypothesis: If Sam actually had the opportunity to stay with Tom and away from all the disgusting corruption and lies of her family, she would be a completely different person. A healthy individual with empathy, care and love in her heart.
And Tom was exactly right. Because she would always be or try to be the best version of herself with Tom. It was a proven fact. But unfortunately she had to cover up lies. Lies of her own. And of others. And unfortunately Tom was falsely blamed for no reason by her corrupt and psychologically delusional and violent family.

It all seemed so sudden. Tom was taken aback. He had only known Sam for 7 months. And here he was. Sitting next to her with everyone in front of them.
Little did he know that this would be the start. The start of the biggest betrayal he’d ever face.
Only a couple of decades spent on this earth yet this girl had betrayed almost everyone. But Tom didn’t know. He didn’t know that Sam was a chronic liar. A sociopath with borderline personality disorder.
But a few months later, Tom would realise. That it was in Sam’s genes. And the environment she had grown up in.
But Tom wanted to change that. He wanted her to be the very best she could be. Tom wanted her to be a role model for other girls and boys.
He tried to be as humanely understanding as possible.
But rather than respect Tom’s heart, Sam chose to abuse it.
In the worst way possible.
